Ever since the invention it’s fair to say that the Digital Smile Design protocol changed modern age and digital dentistry forever. While the philosophy behind the concept is far from new, the translation from analogue protocols to digital protocols made complex esthetic and interdisciplinary dentistry accessible to the major dental public.
While the classic Digital Smile Design (DSD) 2 dimensional protocols rely heavily on the use of software tools like Powerpoint and Keynote and some more advanced steps and computer know-how, with the introduction of tools like SmileCloud the universe of interdisciplinary dentistry became even more accessible.

The teachers
Jasper Thoolen graduated as a dentist from the Radboud University in Nijmegen (the Netherlands) in 2016 and got accredited as a EPA and NVVRT board-certified prosthodontist and DSD-Master by the Digital Smile Design group. He works in his practice Oisterwijkkliniek Tandheelkunde and his main focus is on restorative and reconstructive dentistry, digital smile design and digital workflow, orthodontics and implantology. Jasper is a renowned international speaker on a variety of dental meetings and symposia and is connected as a trainer to several post-academic education programs. Besides his work at the dental chair, he is also an author for a variety of dental magazines and key-opinion-leader for a variety of well-respected dental companies. Jasper is one of the five founders of the online education movement Karma.Dentistry.
Born in a small town in the heart of Transylvania, Ciprian Boca began his journey in the world of dentistry in 2014 when, together with the Dentcof team, he produced a series of video and photo materials for the global promotion of the DSD concept. He is one of the most well-known and appreciated speakers and trainers in dental photography worldwide, presenting both his artistic vision and his own concepts & photographic techniques in the “Esthetics Through the Lens” course, in Europe, USA, Asia, South America and Africa, for more than 1400 dentists from over 45 countries. Over time, he had the opportunity to collaborate, train or share the stage with renowned names from the dentistry elite, as: Florin Cofar, Paulo Kano, Eric van Dooren, Pascal Magne, Ricardo Kern, Jordi Manauta, Gustavo Giordani, Marcelo Giordani, Juan Arias, Johnny Barbur, Edson da Silva, Duval Aloush, Nazariy Mykhaylyuk, and many more. He is a Key Opinion Leader and Ambassador for established brands such as SONY, Hensel, Pascal Dental USA, an honorary member of several International Smile Design Academies and a permanent jury member of the international competition “Smile of the Year” organized by Dental Tribune International. “Dental aesthetics would not have been at the level it is today without photography as its basic tool. But none of these would have existed if the eyes, the heart and the mind did not always work together.”
Lenu Boca first stepped into the world of dentistry in 2016, joining the Dentcof team in Timişoara. In 2018, together with Dr. Florin Cofar, she founded the first dental laboratory specialized in 2D and 3D digital case design and planning, training a team of specialists under the Metalab umbrella over time. A complete self-taught and ambitious person with a developed artistic sense, she continuously enriched her knowledge under the careful guidance of Dr. Florin Cofar, also following professional training programs with renowned technicians such as Prof. Paulo Kano (Brazil), Edson da Silva (Brazil), Janos Mako (Hungary), etc. Having a special interest in everything that the function of the masticatory apparatus means, she participated in courses and seminars held by Prof. Mariano Rocabado (Chile) and Dr. Iustina Verdeş (Romania). Over time, she has been part of international multidisciplinary teams, having the opportunity to work alongside some of the most renowned dentists in the world, including: Florin Cofar (Romania), Eric Van Dooren (Belgium), Gustavo and Marcelo Giordani (Brazil), VictorClavijo (Brazil), Stavros Pelekanos (Greece), Jonny Barbur (Romania), Alejandro Pindeda (Uruguay), etc. Out of the desire to share the knowledge she has accumulated, based on solid experience, starting in 2019 she has been teaching 2D and 3D digital design and planning courses based on the SmileCloud platform, both nationally and internationally.
