Founded in 2019 by Jasper Thoolen and Maartje Brands, ‘Natuurlijk’ is as a concept and platform that was created to make biological and holistic dentistry scientifically proven, and both understandable and clinically relevant. It’s central belief is simple: the mouth is part of the body, and dental professionals have an important role to play in the functional health of the whole person.
Miguel Stanley
When you say ‘holistic dentistry’, the first name that probably pops up in your mind is Dr. Miguel Stanley from Lisbon, Portugal. Ranked as one of the most influential dentists in the world Miguel is in the forefront of new developments in dentistry for decades.
He is the founder and clinical director of the globally renowned White Clinic, a Leading Dental Center of the World for over 25 years with a large team of highly skilled doctors, and co-founder of the Slow Dentistry Global Network, a nonprofit organisation.
He is the Vice President of the Digital Dentistry Society, and is also on the board of the recently created Innovation Society at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. A member of many international scientific and academic organisations, Miguel has published several studies and articles over the years. He is a consultant and Key Opinion Leader for leading dental tech companies and holds a license to practice in the UK and Dubai, besides Portugal.
Maartje Brands
What if dentistry looked beyond teeth and treated the mouth as an integral part of the whole human system? In this lecture, Maartje Brands introduces the principles of functional medicine and explores the crucial role oral healthcare professionals can play in supporting whole-body health.
With a special focus on stress and the autonomic nervous system, she will explain how the balance between sympathetic activation and parasympathetic recovery can influence inflammation, healing and long-term treatment outcomes. Drawing from her clinical experience in biological dentistry, ceramic implantology and acupuncture, Maartje connects science with everyday clinical practice and invites dental professionals to rethink the boundaries of their profession.
